A modernized version of the classic Shaker design, this sweet, small bench made from locally made and reclaimed semi-trailer bed material, a combination of solid red + white oak, with octagonal white oak legs attached with a visible through tenon. A whale with buildings on its back is incised and painted into the bench seat. Drawn from the model of a large scale sculpture, this improbable image rekindles people’s wonder, and allows the impossible seem and feel more possible. The perfect piece for an entryway, kitchen table, foot of a bed, or anywhere you need a place to sit or pass by and be reminded of wonder.  

It’s ok too if you just want a small bench; the hand carved whale is optional. 

Natural finish is oil-based polyurethane to bring out the luminosity of the wood and for durability and ease of cleaning, hand-rubbed satin sheen. The carving is painted and finished with the same oil-based polyurethane.
